Compute strategy — national infrastructure, cloud and the edge

Match the workload to the infrastructure before committing to a platform or device.

Start with the workload

Training a model, adapting one, retrieving documents and running a small local inference task create different infrastructure requirements. Document the workload, data volume, concurrency, latency and reliability needs before comparing hardware or platforms.

What national capacity changes

EuroHPC describes PHAROS as a route to computing, data, tools, expertise and innovation support, with health, language and culture, and sustainability as focus areas. Access conditions and service availability should be confirmed with the programme rather than assumed from an announcement.

Cloud versus local processing

Compare the whole service: data movement, access controls, integration, support, energy, latency and unit cost. Local execution may address a particular latency or data-handling constraint, but it does not remove the need for updates, endpoint security and evaluation.

Keep HPE and HP roles clear

AIStrategy.gr covers HPE’s enterprise and supercomputing story and HP’s personal computing story as distinct parts of the infrastructure landscape. A technology narrative should not substitute for a workload-specific procurement decision.

A useful comparison brief

Prepare one representative workload and a repeatable test. Record configuration, throughput, latency distribution, failure rate and cost under realistic load. Ask how the workload can move or be recovered if an architecture, model or supplier changes.

Discussion for EventChanger

Which Greek teams need shared compute, which need implementation support, and which mainly need better data? A working group should separate these needs before seeking infrastructure funding.
