National health record — physician digital assistant

Documented application · Public health service in Greece

What the evidence establishes

The Ministry of Health announced a physician digital assistant in the national electronic health record on 30 October 2025. Examples include retrieving medication history, vaccinations and a summary of a patient record.

Results and their limits

The announcement documents availability and intended functions. It does not establish diagnostic accuracy, clinical benefit or a quantified reduction in workload.

How to approach a comparable workflow

A comparable information-retrieval pilot should preserve links to the underlying record, distinguish absent from negative information and require the clinician to verify important details.

The following is an AIStrategy.gr implementation proposal, not a description of undisclosed project architecture. Begin with a bounded task, a named operational owner and an explicit acceptance decision. Separate data preparation, model output and the final business action so each can be evaluated.

Data and operating prerequisites

Document the origin, permissions, update frequency and known gaps in the input data. Build a representative evaluation set before changing the workflow. Include difficult cases and examples that should be escalated rather than answered automatically.

Risks and human oversight

Incorrect patient context, incomplete records and omitted qualifications can be consequential. Clinical accountability and authorised access remain central.

What to measure

Evaluate source fidelity, omission rates, retrieval correctness and time to verified information. Assess different record lengths and care settings with qualified reviewers.

A practical first pilot

  1. Define the task, affected users and what a correct outcome means.
  2. Record the current baseline and build the evaluation sample.
  3. Run in advisory mode with staff reviewing the outputs.
  4. Review quality, effort, cost and incidents together before expanding.

Decision gate

Proceed only when the responsible team can explain which errors remain, who handles them and whether measured benefit survives the cost of operation and review. Revise or stop the pilot when that case is not established.
